HYDERABAD: There are 142 ambulances in rural health centers in Sindh managed by Integrated Health Services (IHS). More than 100 of them efficiently perform round-the-clock, IHS director said. IHS director said there are certain issues and challenges besides this effective performance of running and maintaining ambulances on road, that under the Public-Private Partnership Agreement with the Sindh Health Department, IHS could not purchase a new vehicle.

However, IHS maintains 30 vehicles of the old model of 1982 or 1984, which have been repaired at a substantial expense.

Likewise, more than 30 ambulances at rural health centers in Sindh are completely out of service. Most of these vehicles are more than 35 years old and cost more to repair. However, motor mechanics no longer consider it a repair work.
