ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's departure to London for medical treatment caused a great setback to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI's) narrative and the process of accountability.

The federal minister took to Twitter, saying that approaching the British government for the return of the PML-N supremo and an inquiry into medical reports were steps in the right direction.

"Those who played a role in the preparation of the fake reports, they should be turned into examples," said the minister in the post. Talking to media the federal minister said that even the family of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif knows that he is healthy. The Punjab government will investigate Nawaz Sharif's medical reports to determine the responsible persons, he said.

Chaudhry said that an investigation into the Nawaz Sharif's medical reports has been asked from the Punjab government and the matter will be investigated.

"I had said earlier also that Nawaz Sharif is not sick and should not be given any relaxation. Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz share same problem." "Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif want all cases against them to be shut meanwhile Maryam and Nawaz want to destroy the politics of Shahbaz Sharif."

"Pakistan entered the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list due to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PML-N. Shahbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari cannot gather enough persons to fill a marriage hall in their combined rally."

"The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is an independent body. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) President Fazl-ur-Rehman is running a party comprising rented crowd at the moment," he added.

Addressing a workshop of journalists in Islamabad on Saturday, he said promotion of technology in journalism is need of the hour.

He said print media is faced with various challenges in the race of technology.

Chaudhry stressed the need for adoption of latest technology in the field of journalism to compete with the rest of the world.

The minister said digital media is progressing fast and people should adopt it.

Chaudhry said that all the provincial assemblies should start social media channels, and, the performance of provincial legislators must be in front of the people. He said that because of coronavirus, on the one hand, people had to lose their jobs and on the other hand, jobs were created. He said that other countries had passed a bill against marriage of underage girls but Pakistan's parliament had not been able to pass a bill banning underage marriage, extremism was on the rise in Pakistan.
