Rs 150 million allocated: agriculture minister examines flood protection dykes

Punjab Minister for agriculture and irrigation Malik Ahmad Ali has said that the provincial government is spending over Rs 150 million on construction of new and existing flood protection dykes in district Layyah.
These views were expressed by him while chairing a high level meeting here on Tuesday after inspecting a newly constructed protection dyke near Layyah city. This new dyke has been completed at a cost of Rs 110 million to ensure protection of life and properties of the masses. The meeting was attended by DCO Layyah, XEN Canals Layyah, Taunsa Barrage, in charge rescue 1122 and officers from agriculture, health, education and other departments. The Minister speaking on the occasion said that five protection bund and six spurs have been constructed on 58 kilometers long strip to save district Layyah from flood water of river Sindh. He directed all the departments to evolve an effective flood fighting plan in advance to ensure security to the life and properties of people living in flood areas. He also directed for working round the clock for repair and monitoring of all the dykes.
