LAHORE: The province of Punjab has reported less than 200 cases in a day for the sixth consecutive day, as 129 fresh coronavirus cases and three deaths were reported during the past 24 hours.

As per official data, out of 5,798 tests conducted during the last 24 hours, 129 were reported positive taking the tally to 94,715. With three more fatalities, the total number of deaths in the province has reached to 2,177.

Pakistan has reported 1,947 coronavirus recoveries during the last 24 hours, according to the government's portal for tracking the spread of the virus in the country. With the new recoveries, the tally has risen to 263,193. In Punjab, 86,341 corona positive have so far recovered.

Moreover, the Punjab government has reportedly closed down Covid-19 wards in three government-run hospitals in the city, leaving the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) the dedicated facility for patients of the disease following a reported decrease in cases.

All the filter clinics and wards for Covid-19 patients at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital have been closed and patients will be referred to RIU from now on. The three hospitals have restarted routine activities and are treating all kinds of patients in various departments, said sources in the health department.

It may be noted that the Punjab government had already issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for resuming educational activities from Sept 15.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, all indoor games, swings, slides and other sports activities are banned in educational institutions.
