This Pakistani denim manufacturer wants to supply indigenous organic cotton

Pakistan being one of the largest cotton producers in the world, is now keen to lead the globe with its initiative to supply sustainable organic cotton.

Organic cotton comprises less than one percent of global cotton production, and there are issues pertaining to the integrity of its certification. However, Pakistani denim manufacturer Artistic Milliners wants to change all that and has identified the Balochistan province endowed with unique features as an ideal spot for its project for a large-scale supply of authentic organic cotton.

As per sourcing journal, Artistic Milliners has joined WWF Pakistan in its efforts to support organic cotton growth in this region. Under this project, the company has pre-booked all the organic cotton from the first ginners and farmers in the province.

The company says that the goal of its project is to reinvent the cotton ecosystem from farms to mill to reclaim cotton’s identity as a socially and environmentally friendly crop. The company believes that due to natural pesticides, organic cotton is not just better for the environment, it’s better for our skin.

The company says that it is encouraging farmers to produce organic cotton by sustaining demand i.e. purchasing as much organic cotton from the farmers at a premium rate. Secondly, the company alongside its strategic partners i.e. WWF and Balochistan’s Organic Farmers, has been providing the necessary training to the farmers in all aspects of organic farming.

The company is also involved in obtaining GOTS Certification for the entire process of making fabric from organic cotton.

Lastly, the company has also created an app to upload and track data on the cloud for transparency and real-time weather and terrain condition.
