First batch of ‘Made in Pakistan’ ventilators to be delivered on Friday, says Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said that the first batch of ventilators manufactured under Made in Pakistan would be delivered to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday.

In his address to the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday, said that medical engineering was virtually nonexistent in Pakistan. He said that ventilators were made under Made in Pakistan, the first consignment will be handed over to NDMA by Friday.

The minister said that Pakistan was initially importing the safety gear kits until February 26. However, currently, it is manufacturing safety gear and has exported $100 million worth of gear.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that the government and the opposition should agree on the national agenda, amend all the controversial laws including the NAB. “The people no longer want to see us fighting and work together,” he said.

PAKISTAN MAKES ITS OWN VENTILATORS

In a video statement on Sunday, Fawad said that Pakistan has joined the ranks of those few countries which are producing their own ventilators.

“The ventilator is a complicated machine and not a lot of countries in the world have the capacity to make this,” he added. He expressed optimism that the country would be able to meet its own need for ventilators and would also be able to export the equipment.

“When the first Covid-19 case was recorded in February 26, we were not producing anything. Within a few months, we have become capable of producing our own equipment,” he said.

He said the next three designs are also in their final stages, after which Pakistan will be among the few countries in the world that manufacture complex medical machines, in accordance with European Union (EU) standards.
