The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) has so far completed 95 percent of the public registration across the country, while it has issued a record number of 12,394,889 computerisation national identity cards during last year.
According to Nadra spokesman, this was disclosed by Nadra Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik disclosed while addressing an inaugural ceremony of Nadra Registration Centre exclusively for women at Kotli Loharan in Sialkot district. Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa inaugurated the centre while Federal Minister Women Development Firdous Ashiq Awan was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Latif Khosa said the establishment of women registration centre is a landmark achievement, which would facilitate women of the local area in getting different kinds of documents including computerised identity card. This step would also help registration of votes and provision of basic facilities like education and health, he added.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said the country's population is comprised of 51 percent women out of which 70 percent live in far-flung and backward rural areas. She stressed the need for setting up more centres for women in the country so that they could get computerised identity card without any problem, the spokesman added.
