Looks like iPhone 8 might not be the only product Apple will launch in September. The firm might also launch its 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR) capable Apple TV too.

The company is reportedly upgrading the Apple TV after almost two years to 4K and HDR video along with a quick processor to manage the 4K streamer. The TV could highlight live television content like news or sports.

Bloomberg informed that the upgraded TV would be launched along with the new iPhone in September. However, the plans are yet to be made public.

4K means a standard quality designation that shows content at twice the resolution of 1080P high-definition video providing enhanced clarity for its viewers. For getting the 4K experience, viewers will be required to attach the updated Apple TV to a screen that can show high-resolution footage. This could be possible because now many recent TV models from various firms offer 4K output such as Sony, LG and Samsung. The TV would then be able to generate result in HDR video that will create accurate colors and brighter picture.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook exclaimed in the developers conference back in June, “You’ll be hearing a lot more about tvOS later this year,” (referring to Apple TV’s operating system). Moreover, an Apple spokesperson declined to comment about it.

Apple would however, need content makers that can provide videos in 4K and HDR format. A California based tech giant Cupertino, is already in talks with movie studios for providing 4K version of movies through iTunes, reported sources close to the company. Renowned video apps on the Apple TV include Vevo and Netflix. Furthermore, the old and upcoming TV boxes will be capable of accessing Amazon Prime Video by the year’s end too, according to Engadget.

According to reports, the updated device will be a step for Apple to ‘revive its video ambitions’ since the original one didn’t do well along with Roku by Roku Inc., Chromecast by Google, and the Fire TV by Amazon.
