Google bids goodbye to Google Instant Search

After Adobe killing its Flash Player, Google has also declared that it is ending its Google Instant in favor of mobile searches.

Google Instant that was introduced back in 2010 by Google, showed search results to users regarding any query they typed in Google search. While launching the feature, Google’s then-VP of Search Products Marissa Mayer said, “If everyone on the planet used Google Instant for their searches... it would save about 3.5 billion seconds a day, or 11 hours saved every second.”

The killing of Instant Search won’t mean that the users will not be able to see the suggestions, they will just get limited. It will be similar to how it was back in 2009 when the results will only be viewed after the user presses enter or clicks on a suggestion.

Though helpful for users in computers, Google Instant was no use for mobile phones because of the screen restriction. The keyboard covers up half of the screen due to which the user finds it difficult to search results instantly. According to GSMArena, now over 50% half of Google’s searchers are made on mobile phones.

Google stated, “We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.”
