Speaker National Assembly Dr Fahmida Mirza has termed the unanimous resolution passed by the parliament as a great victory of democratic forces of the country. Addressing a press conference at the residence of Senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz here on Saturday, she said by passing the resolution, the parliament had conveyed a message to the nation that every body was resolute to defend the country and its system and democracy was there to stay.
She said the country was facing complex situation with multiple issues including electricity, law & order, wheat and others, which needed to be faced with courage, dedication and patience. She called on the politicians to stand united in this terse time and work their best to bring out the country from the crises. Regarding the performance of National Assembly, Fahmida said it had uplifted the moral of the masses. She averred that assemblies were the platform of the nation and would not let it down.
The Speaker National Assembly said she wanted to firm up the consolidation process in all the four assemblies and the national assembly. Earlier Dr Mirza talking to journalists at the Punjab Assembly premises announced holding of a "Speakers Conference" at Lahore. The date of this conference would be announced later, she dilated. She said that being holding the chair in the National Assembly, all the legislators were equal in her eyes and this should be the way to run a parliament should.
To a question regarding prevailing power crisis and construction of Kalabagh Dam she said there were resolutions passed by three provincial assemblies against the KBD project. She said that keeping up higher norms of parliament, she had given Public Accounts Committee slot to the opposition in National Assembly as well as representation of opposition members in Standing Committees. She asked the other provincial assemblies to follow the suit.
