The final decision pertaining to inclusion or dropping of pacers Shoaib Akhtar, Muhammad Asif and Umer Gul in the final line-up of Pakistan cricket team for World Cup 2007 will be made on Wednesday on receipt of reports of the doctors.
Skipper of Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq, stated this, while talking to newsmen, here on Tuesday. He was of the view that if Shoaib Akhtar and Muhammad Asif are able to come back in the squad, it will help make Pakistan cricket team a balanced combination, otherwise it will be an under-strength side. 'Only medical experts can exactly tell us about the exact condition of injured players and in the light of their opinion about their fitness level, final decision will be taken, Inzamam said.
Answering a question, Inzamam-ul-Haq avoided making any prediction about his team's success in the World Cup 2007; however, he vowed that all out efforts will be made to get laurels for the country. "I cannot say about success, I cannot make such a promise but I can assure one thing that we will make concerted efforts to mould our team into a winning combination in the World Cup," he remarked. He said he was optimistic about the team's performance in the World Cup but refused to term it a favourite. He averred that he will play at 4th position in the World Cup matches and will do his best to come up to the expectations of the nation. He further said special focus will be made on batting, bowling and fielding.
To another question, he said Australia and South Africa are the two teams, which can pose a serious threat to opponents and they can be dubbed favourites.
Inzamam said he was worried about the team's weakness in fielding, and hoped that players will make extra efforts to overcome this weakness that can hamper their performance and chances. 'Perfection is needed in batting, accuracy in bowling and command in fielding, and together these elements can lead the team to success,' he said.
Answering another question, Inzamam said one-day cricket has become a tough contest and no team can be taken lightly, as sometimes weak teams upset strong opponents. Nevertheless, a top professional approach is a must to face and undermine opponents.
He further said the upcoming tournament would be his 5th world cup and he wants to complete his campaign on a memorable note. He praised the coaching of Bob Woolmer and said due to his guidance the team showed fine results in past three years.
