The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a notice to Law Officer directing him to assist the court in a petition challenging the non-implementation of 'Disabled Rehabilitation of Employment Ordinance, 1981'.
The court also directed the provincial government to submit its reply to the petition within two weeks. The petitioner Sheikh Inam Elahi submitted that respondent government is bound to allocate 2-percent quota for the disabled in all the departments.
"Under the law all the departments and institutions are bound to employ 2-percent disabled persons or to deposit the amount of their salaries in the 'Disabled and Rehabilitation Fund' created by the federal government" he argued. He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondent government to implement the ordinance in question in letter and spirit.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, issued notices to the law officer with directions to assist the court on next date of hearing.
