Pakistan can benefit from the best utilisation of Italian practices in the dimensional stone sector, said Ihsanullah Khan, chairman, Pakistan Stone Development Company (Pasdec), while addressing a reception hosted in the honour of Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Roberto Mozzetto, here on Thursday.
The Italian Ambassador complimented the efforts of Pasdec and the Government of Pakistan for the development of marble and granite sectors, said a press release issued on Friday.
The envoy said it was a pity to see such a beautiful heritage being wasted and hoped that collaborated efforts would make a marked difference in the sector. The Pasdec Chairman said that their participation in the Verona Fair, in Italy was "beneficial and enlightening and also triggered the new marble and granite era in Pakistan."
While rolling out a detailed strategy for development in the sector, he stressed on the potential Pakistan carries in becoming a key marble and granite player internationally.
Collaboration in trading purchase of equipment and information exchange between the two countries would not only help build and strengthen bonds between the two nations but also pose as a win-win situation for them.
Italy is internationally famous for its marble and granite, which has been in use since the Stone Age. Italian mining techniques are modern and up-to-date whereas explosives are still being used for quarrying purposes in Pakistan. Mining through explosives not only damages the marble but also results in colossal wastage.
The Pasdec chairman raised his concerns about the facilitation of visa processes to Italy whereas Roberto committed himself to be as co-operative with Pasdec as possible for the development of the industry.
Pasdec chief operating officer lauded the efforts of various institutions that played a key role in the development of marble and granite strategy and are committed to develop this sector, including Smeda, MoIP, JE Austin Associate and the untiring support provided by key players of the sector.-PR
