The peace accord, signed in South Waziristan, would be implemented in letter and spirit and the presence of foreigners on the Mehsud soil would not be tolerated, said NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (retd). He was talking to the 21-member Mehsud Peace Committee of South Waziristan Agency, which called on him at the Governor House here on Thursday.
The governor, while talking to the jirga, stated that the situation in South Waziristan still required improvement as the sources were putting a finger towards South Waziristan Agency in the aftermath of the recent suicide attacks in Fata and settled areas.
Similarly, he added there were reports of some cross-border infiltration in the recent past, whereas the government had taken measures to check the infiltration, however it was incumbent up on the jirga to ensure that such movement did not take place any more.
Governor Aurakzai in his detailed discussions with Peace Committee informed them about the gravity of situation and stated that it was a last chance for them to save the situation from further deterioration. Senator Maulana Saleh Shah informed that in his recent meeting with Baitullah Mehsud, he (Baitullah) had categorically denied his involvement in the recent suicide attacks.
He further stated that if there were any reports against the presence of foreigners in Mehsud territory, the same had to be formally reported so that action was taken against them.
He also referred to the presence of armed troops in close vicinity of the civilian population, which according to him was causing inconvenience to the locals especially the women folk. He requested for readjustment of their deployment. The Jirga members assured the governor that they would meet Baitullah and his Shura members and apprise him of the situation. MNA Maulana Merajuddin stated that it would be their endeavour to maintain peace and tranquillity in the area.
