PESHAWAR: Speakers at a launching of Indo-Pak Peace calendar here Tuesday stressed on promoting a lasting relationship between Pakistan and India.
Speakers called upon the main stream political leadership of the two countries to play their role for bridging the gap between the two governments and bringing the two nations more closers.
The event was organized at Bacha Khan Markaz here under the patronage of "Aaghaze Dosti" (The beginning of friendship) a joint venture of Mission Bhartiyam (India) and The Catalyst of Peace (Pakistan) striving for building friendship bridges between both neighboring countries with the support of Bacha Khan Trust Research Centre.
The calendar that bears quotes of Pakistani and Indian scholars, educationists, journalists, High ranking army officials and civil society activists, besides painting which were contributed by students from each side of the border. Addressing the launching of the calendar, Awami National Party (ANP)'s central leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain emphasized upon the political leadership of the two countries to help strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
He said the normal relationship between Pakistan and India would pave the way for lasting peace in the region and better relationship with neighbouring countries including Afghanistan and Iran for socio-economic development.
Former MNA Jamila Gilani also emphasized upon females politicians, activities and civil society members of two countries to play their role for promoting harmony and peace between Pakistan and India.
Professor Faizullah Jan of University of Peshawar recalling the history said the hostilities between Germany and France was not a hidden fact, but both the countries buried their enmities forever and agreed for development of their nations.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of Bacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation Dr. Khadim Hussain highlighted various reasons that contributed towards tension between Pakistan and India for the last many decades.
Kashmir issue remains the main dispute between the two countries.
He said the launching of Indo-Pak Peace Calendar was aimed to reflect the shared hopes of people for good neighbouring relations between the two sides.
