power-line0KARACHI: The K-Electric has established an electric engineering lab.An official of the utility said on Wednesday that in order to further strengthen the knowledge platform for future engineers, K-Electric has partnered with NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET) to establish its electrical engineering lab along with the provision of integrated equipment.

The state-of-the-art lab was inaugurated by Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal Haque, Vice Chancellor, NEDUET and Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer K-Electric along with university staff.

The first of its kind initiative will enable electrical engineering students to gain first-hand access to complex electrical equipment, while enhancing R&D activities in line with the utility's research driven approach.

The equipment includes modified relays, testing benches, transformers and various other valuable devices used in grid stations. Moreover, separate areas for lectures and experiment have been established as well.

Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal Haque, Vice Chancellor, NEDUET said on the occasion that effective industry-academia collaboration plays a key role for the social and industrial development in the knowledge based economy. KE has been playing role of a dynamic mentor for engineering students not just in terms of providing resources and guidance but it is also the largest employer of NED graduates.

By providing electrical engineering students with modern equipment and state-of-the-art lab, this hands on teaching environment will add further value.

Further he added, `I look forward for more meaningful collaboration between the two prestigious organizations in all areas of mutual interest".

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Chief Marketing & Communication Officer K-Electric said that engineers are one of the most important assets of a nation and at K-Electric we fully recognize their role in the country's socioeconomic development.

As engineering is core to our business, KE's Social Investment Programme focuses on training and development of prospective engineers. We look forward for more such collaborations with one of finest engineering institutes and our key partner in the future as well.

The initiative is a continuation of an MoU signed back in 2013 between K-Electric and NEDUET through which the utility had pledged to nurture students by providing them resources and guidance to inspire future engineers.

Last year, KE provided Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE) software to NEDUET helping students to better understand transmission planning and undertake simulation exercises.

Earlier this year, the utility also supported NED University's formula style racing car to represent the national flag in Formula SAE.
