Women are the integral part of society. The need of the hour is to create awareness regarding their roles as a woman, giving them equal opportunities in all the fields of life, so that they can contribute their positively in the development of the country.
The women of Pakistan began playing an active role in community politics and as social reformers as early as 1935. That was the time when the Muslim League included women representation and well-known women like Shaista Ikramullah and Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan actively assumed political roles and laid the foundations of creating political consciousness among women.
With Pakistan's emergence in 1947, many women volunteer organisations also emerged. Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and Begum Liaquat Ali Khan became familiar figures at educational institutions and social forums urging females to focus on education and incorporate themselves into society to work for the country's progress. At present we can see an increase in women participation at all levels of society and also their presence on a large scale in the assemblies. Today, women voters are registered to be nearly 50 percent of the total population and there are now nearly 70 women MNAs.
The role of women within our societies is changing. They are now uniting to protest against injustices, call for improvement in services, and take control of the influences shaping their lives and that of their families.
There is continued rise in the number of women in well-paid professional occupations, doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects you name it and we have it. Pakistan is the only country in the East to have a Female Major-General in the army. And Pakistan is the only Muslim country to have women fighter pilots in its Air Force so we see women in all the fields. Women in Pakistan have progressed in various fields of life such as politics, education, economy, services, health and many more.
Thus educating women regarding their roles and also creating awareness regarding balance between their family and work is very important. Imparting awareness to women about the significance of the roles they play in society; it is also necessary to make others aware of their roles as well. The main thing we need is to create awareness and that is created through seminars, workshops, conferences and lectures and through electronic and print media. There is also need to remove a misconception that women have career only in teaching but also in various fields of life and also to tell them they are equal with men and are equally talented.
The most important problem faced by the women is regarding proper management between their family and work. Due to this reason they won't be able to work so by proper planning and time management they can work and contribute for the betterment of not only their family but also their country. The need is to plan their priorities by proper time management and can create balance in both fields. The workshops and seminars help a lot in defining the roles played by women and we see that women now have become more outspoken and confident in communicating their views and opinions.
In recent years there has been a decent rise in respect for the significant roles played by women in all walks of life. Women's involvement is considered to be the link that completes the cycle that results in a collective effort for community benefits. There are many women working in corporate sector now, which shows that women of today play a major role in developing environments, cultures and economy of a country. Just like a domestic woman nurtures the growth of her family, the corporate woman should groom their younger counterparts. Men and women complement each other. For every growing organisation, it is essential to have equilibrium in its male and female strength. This not only fosters mutual respect, but also helps deliver much better performance results.
On different occasions like seminars and workshops or other public gathering housewives and working women meet and discuss their issues; achievements, vocalise their concerns; highlight their contribution in the society and analyse different efforts made towards women development in the society.
The experts share their experiences and vital information with the attendees, which would eventually groom women to perform better at their homes and work places. They guide women about ways to balance home and work and discuss cost-effective ways of home management.
Pakistani women are making significant progress in various sectors of the society. At present there are 22 percent women in the National Assembly, 33 percent in the Local Government and various women ministers all over the country.
Working Women belong to all classes and most Pakistani women now work with a purpose. They may be a housewife, a corporate executive, an entrepreneur, a politician, a social worker or a media-person.
About 51 percent of the world population is women, and individually they can make the difference. We must understand the importance of identifying and understanding our role as a woman, that confidence, optimism and elegance along with patience make a complete woman.
A woman needs to build up a strong image both professionally and at home. A woman needs to be reminded, time and again, that people should learn to respect her but first she has to give importance to herself. interaction between women and men, women and women, men and men are guided by mutual respect and trust and a society free of all forms of prejudices, discriminations, intolerance, oppression, fear and uncertainties among females promote a supportive environment to ensure a progressive social change providing empowerment to women and enabling women to develop their optimal potential.
