Benchmark cocoa futures on the New York Board of Trade eased 0.5 percent Wednesday, weighed down by light speculative profit-taking after touching a fresh 5-week peak earlier in the session, traders said.
NYBOT's front-month September cocoa contract ended at $1,491 per tonne, down $7, or 0.5 percent, having dealt from $1,481 to $1,505. The top trade was the highest since June 29.
The December contract eased $4 to settle at $1,526 a tonne, and back months declined $2 to $4.
Indeed, since hitting a contract low of $1,377 on July 8, September has risen about 9 percent.
