The Islamabad-based Human Resource Development Centre of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc) is organising a training course on 'Rural Uplift' from August 08 to 28, an official of the centre said on Wednesday. Participants from seven member states - Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will attend the training programme.
In the past the centre has arranged courses on good governance, environmental pollution and development, labour and employment and role of human resource development in achieving millennium development goals.
The official said human resource development was a vital issue in South Asia, which was home to one-fifth of the humanity and is plagued by poverty, illiteracy and malnourishment.
"Besides holding courses, the Saarc Centre serves as a medium for exchange of information and data on social and economic affairs among the member states," the official said.
