The NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has said, Pakistan has become now an economically stable country and is considered one of the five stable economies in the region. "The credit of this unprecedented achievement goes to President General Pervez Musharraf", he added.
Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Kabal in Swat on Saturday, which was also addressed by the President General Pervez Musharraf, the governor said that it was the wise and dynamic leadership of the President that not only stabilised the country but also placed it at an honourable status amongst the comity of nations.
The governor particularly referred to some difficult decisions taken by the President in the wake of post 9/11 situation in Afghanistan, global war against terror, anti-sectarian drive and rooting out foreign terrorists from Waziristan and said that the people of Pakistan have fully supported these decisions which, he added were in the larger interest of the country and the nation.
"The people of Pakistan are wise enough and the unprecedented popularity that our national leadership has attained in a short span of time is a clear testimony to the fact as well", he remarked.
In fact, the governor said the decisions taken by Pakistan have also been appreciated and endorsed at various international forums including the UNO and OIC.
The governor also mentioned the theory of enlightened moderation floated by the President and said that Islam does not permit extremism in any form and manifestation rather it is a religion of moderation and is against all kinds of oppression, intimidation and exploitation.
The governor said that the Father of the Nation during the entire movement for independence never favoured extremism and similarly Allama Iqbal also thought the Muslims to be patient, passive and moderate. He said that the entire nation should get united under the dynamic leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf to achieve the cherished goal of progress and prosperity, which, in fact, was the need of the hour.
The Quaid-e-Azam, he said despite the provocative attitude of the non-Muslims during the Pakistan movement barred the Muslims from taking the path of extremism and furthered the political struggle in political way to achieve the desired results.
Lauding the services of the President towards the nation and the country the governor said that he (the President) was not only striving for the economic and political stability of the country but also making strenuous and sincere efforts for the reformation of the society.
He also mentioned the govt's efforts for the development of Fata and said that financial resources provided for the purpose during the past five years were even more than the total resources spent on the development of Fata during the rest of the 50 years.
The public meeting was also addressed by the Minister of State for Water and Power Engineer Amir Muqam and local leaders of Swat, Buner, Shangla and other parts of the region.
