I congratulate the Karachi Building Control Authority and other stakeholders in the housing industry for launching this International Exhibition on Housing. This should not be an ordinary show for it has a wide range of aims and objects.
Apart from promoting issues connected with the housing industry, particularly improving the quality of construction, the Exhibition hopes to confront builders and members of the public to resolve their disputes in an atmosphere of goodwill and act as means of marketing the respective projects.
present government has given the highest priority to the housing and construction sector by declaring it a priority industry. Our emphasis would be to focus on the fundamental requirements of creating a favourable and conducive environment in the country for the private sector.
There is huge shortage of housing in Karachi. Let us work towards building one million small economical houses within two years, for the low income groups. Wherever new settlements are being planned, the infrastructure should be laid as a pre-requisite and afterwards uniform, compact, fully provided houses be handed over on turn-key basis. If we could achieve this goal, this Exhibition will have fulfilled my vision.
