Pakistan Muslim League has launched a "signature campaign" to create awareness for eradicating crime of honour-killing from the society. Adviser to Prime Minister on Women Development, Nilofer Bakhtiar made these comments, while addressing a seminar on "Honour-Killing Crimes" and said that the government has passed the legislation on honour crimes, which is a bold step for provision of justice to women.
In this regard, Chaudhry Shaujat Hussain has signed and launched a 'signature campaign' to show that majority of people are against honour-killing
Nilofer Bakhtiar said that NGOs want to get huge donations from international agencies by highlighting Mukhtaran Mai issue in international media. She asserted that NGOs must not blow up Mukhtaran's case for their vested interests, adding that we are committed to bring culprits involved in the case to justice.
The adviser said that government wants to resolve the Mukhtaran Mai issue immediately and despite summer holidays of the court, the Prime Minister has directed them to resolve the issue on priority basis.
She said that majority of mental and physical violence goes unnoticed and un-addressed, and the ministry will soon table the bill on domestic violence in the Parliament.
Nilofer said that the existing types of domestic violence cover psychological and mental abuse, physical torture, stove-burns, acid burns, domestic torture, wrongful confinement and restraints and sexual harassment.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Shaujat Hussain said that honour-killings are prevailing in all corners of the country so a voice must be raised to give severe punishments to the culprits.
He said that the government is against honour crimes and committed to provide justice to Mukhtaran Mai on immediate basis.
