imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressing his anger and anguish has directed Commissioner Karachi, administrator Karachi to clean the city within three days by lifting the garbage accumulated along the roads and in the streets, or else `face the music'.

An official said that the Chief Minister stated this while presiding over a meeting on water and garbage lifting issues on Monday at CM House.

Those who attended the meeting, included Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo, Additional Secretary (Development) Mohammad Waseem, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ali Khan, Secretary Local Government Baqaullah Unar, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed, MD Water Board Misbahuddin Farid.

The Chief Minister said that he had provided necessary funds to KMC, DMCs and deputy commissioners to clean the city and provide water to the citizens through tankers but "sorry to say nothing has been achieved so far," he added and directed "the Commissioner and Administrator Karachi to get the city clean by lifting garbage from each and every DMC of the city by involving (your) entire machinery and human resources hired for the purpose, otherwise everyone should get ready to `face the music'.

"We have no need of such sanitation and sweeping employees on local bodies who despite drawing salaries do not work," Syed Qaim Ali Shah said and directed the Commissioner and Administrator KMC to mobilize DMCs, deputy commissioners and concerned staff and start cleaning city from today and get it done with three days.

The KMC, DMCs have a large number of sweeping and sanitation staff members and have huge machinery to sweep the city and lift the garbage from collection points to landfill sites.

" The Sindh government keeps providing additional funds to KMC and DMCs for the salaries of their employees and cleanliness of their areas but they are not performing," he said.

The Chief Minister said that he has personally visited different areas of city and found heaps of garbage everywhere. "I am giving you three days and ask every one (concerned) to start work, clean the city, lift the garbage and report him, otherwise not only I would relieve the concerned officer(s) but would take action against him," he said.

The Chief Minister also expressed his dissatisfaction on distribution of free tanker service in the areas facing shortage of water. "Improve the tanker distribution system. In this city majority of the people are very poor and they cannot afford to purchase water," he said and directed the Commissioner to furnish him a detailed report.
