NWFP Police Chief Muhammad Raffat Pasha has strictly directed the Peshawar-based police high-ups to further improve their intelligence network, adopt foolproof security measures and ensure peace and religious harmony at all costs.
This, he said, while chairing a high-level meeting of the Peshawar police at CPO on Tuesday. The meeting was held to review law and order situation in Peshawar and take necessary steps in this connection.
The IGP directed the participants of the meeting to enhance their vigilance, make collective efforts and ensure religious and sectarian harmony among different sects of the society.
He said for this purpose they should keep close liaison with religious leaders of different sects and give due importance to their opinion and suggestions so that brotherhood and religious harmony could be ensured effectively. They were also directed to enhance vigilance on worship places and foil the nefarious designs of the anti-social elements well in time.
The provincial police officer also took strong exception of using delaying tactics in registration of FIR and burking of the cases and strictly warned the police that if any policeman found involved in burking of cases he would be severely punished as per the law.
The police were directed to launch a special campaign against proclaimed offenders and smash their hideouts.
The police chief also made it clear that no-go areas would not be tolerated in any part of the province and strictly directed the police to start an operation clean up against the criminals in Mathra, Macheni, Regi Lalma and Mattani and effectively establish the writ of the law in these areas.
The IGP categorically made it clear that roads blockade would not be tolerated and directed the police to keep close contact with the concerned Wapda officials and launch a special collective drive against power thieves and bill defaulters and ensure that day-to-day work of the people could not be disturbed due to roads blockade.
The police were also directed to take effective steps for obscenity and especially AIG traffic was asked to effectively ensure ban on music and obscene pictures in all sorts of vehicles.
The traffic police were directed to regularly check these violations in their respective areas and bring the violators to book.
The participants of the meeting were also directed to make visible and result-oriented efforts and take all possible measures for the protection of life, honour and property of general public.
Earlier, CCOP Masood Ahmad Paracha briefed the IGP about the law and order situation in Peshawar and steps taken in this connection.
DIG Special Branch Khalid Masood, SSP Peshawar Abid Ali, SP Investigation Sadiq Kamal Orakzai, AIG Operations CPO Muhammad Malik Saad and other SPs, ASPs and DSPs largely attended the meeting.
