Argentine export commitments of 2003/04 corn totalled 5.15 million tonnes by May 28, up from 4.67 million tonnes the week before, the Agriculture Department said on Monday.
By the same date last year, corn sales totalled 6.41 million tonnes.
The government reported sales last week of 50,000 tonnes of corn each to Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Chile and Portugal, 25,000 tonnes to Angola and 5,000 tonnes to Oman.
The department also upped its estimate for sales to unspecified destinations by 250,000 tonnes.
The government's sales data refers to corn seeded starting in August 2003, the harvest of which began in February 2004. The US Department of Agriculture forecasts that Argentine exports of 2003/04 corn will total 8.5 million tonnes.

Argentine officials privately forecast 2003/04 wheat exports at 9 million tonnes, while the US Department of Agriculture foresees sales abroad of 8 million tonnes.
