Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) has started translation of its pre-feasibility reports and sector briefs in Urdu which will be uploaded on its website for easy understanding by the SME sector.
This is the part of an exercise carried out by the Authority after an agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to translate its "SMEs Toolkit" in Urdu, to make it available on Smeda website for better understanding by the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs.
Smeda Head of Technical Services Group, Shahid Chaudhry told Business Recorder here on Thursday that SME Toolkit contents have been completely translated and uploaded on the website and now second phase of the exercise has begun, to translate 74 pre-feasibility reports and 15 sector briefs prepared by the Authority.
He hoped that the work would be completed by June and the website would officially be launched.
"Smeda is carrying out this exercise in pursuance of directions of the Federal Minister for Industries & Production, Liaquat Jatoi, with financial support of US 15,000 dollars from World Bank (WB)," Shahid added.
One of the aims of SME Toolkit is to translate and 'localise' it in regional language in co-operation with partners in developing countries.
He stated that Smeda has deep roots in the SME sector through its physical presence in more that 10 cities in Pakistan.
The existence widens with its virtual presence on the web. To retain existing online visitors and further increase its outreach, translation of existing in-house content into Urdu will be a key to success. Smeda website and SME Toolkit can support and complement each other by providing collaborative rich content in Urdu to the common target market, ie, the SMEs.
Smeda has also planned to translate the regulatory procedures for SMEs in Urdu in the third phase.
