Freedom Movement worker and former federal minister Mehmood Ali has said the inspiring leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah led to a democratic process, and made coming into being of Pakistan possible.
He stated this while speaking on 'Democracy - its strength and factors that go into its making' at a function held at the University of Karachi on Wednesday.
He said the British government in collaboration with Hindus exploited Muslims, and forced them to a situation where they realised the necessity of a separate homeland.
Mehmood Ali gave an overview of the Freedom Movement in India, and the factors that led to the creation of Pakistan.
He said the inspiring leadership of the Quaid-e-Azam, unity among the Muslims, and a determination to get a separate home were the guiding motivations that created conducive atmosphere to the division of the Indian sub-continent.
He described with pain the separation of the eastern wing, and blamed politicians for the break-up.
Mehmood Ali stressed the need for resolving the pressing political problems that should be addressed on priority basis, saying there must be unity among the people, and political differences should be addressed at the right forum. "Uniform or no uniform" is not our immediate problem, he said.
Ali said a mature outlook seemed to be the only solution to 'our problems', adding there was still a chance for the people to follow the footsteps of the Quaid-e-Azam and resolve their issues on merit.
