India is sticking to the understanding with Pakistan that the two neighbours should eschew rhetoric during the peace process, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said on Saturday.
"When we were in Islamabad it was agreed upon that there would be no rhetoric from either side. India stands by the understanding, while Pakistan is occasionally coming up with statements," Sinha told newsmen in Ranchi.
In reply to a question why India was sticking to reactions, while Pakistan was issuing statements on occupied Kashmir, Sinha said it was not necessary to react on every statement and asked that words be not put in his mouth.
He said that New Delhi was serious on the peace process and would stick to it.
Stating that a calendar of events had been drawn up in February for the talks, he said foreign ministers of the two countries would sit together once the secretary-level meetings were complete.
