Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said on Monday that India had taken "serious note of the clandestine export of nuclear technology from Pakistan."
At a press conference in Lucknow, capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Vajpayee said he was confident that under the supervision of the United Nations, a system would be evolved to ensure that there was no room for such proliferation.
"It is a serious issue," Vajpayee said when asked about alleged secret export of nuclear technology by Pakistan's nuclear bomb scientist A Q Khan to foreign countries and possibility of this getting into hands of terrorist groups like al Qaeda, Press Trust of India, quoted Vajpayee as saying.
"On the one side, non-proliferation talks are going on, and on the other, clandestinely transfer of nuclear technology to other countries has taken place. We have taken serious note of it, and we are taking all steps necessary to safeguard the country's security," he said.
Vajpayee arrived in Lucknow on a two-day visit for election campaign.
