Commandoes were deployed in occupied Jammu on Sunday ahead of a two-day visit by the main opposition Congress party leader Sonia Gandhi.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Farooq Ahmed, said a large number of troops have been posted all over the city and the entire area around a stadium, where Gandhi is to address a rally, checked for explosives.
Gandhi's visit is aimed at finalising the political battle plan for the restive Indian state, ahead of general elections expected in April.
Congress is a partner of the ruling People's Democratic Party in occupied Kashmir, which took office more than a year ago.
