A Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) delegation is likely to meet Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz in Islamabad on Saturday (January 17) to apprise him of the serious situation the sugar industry is passing through.
According to a reliable source, with the start of new season, production had touched 900,000 tonnes on December 31, 2003 and the market price structure has further deteriorated due to huge stocks.
The PSMA requested the Finance Minister to take cognisance of the situation and consider remedial measures to save the industry from total collapse.
Besides the Chairman and members of central executive committee, the PSMA delegation will also include representative from Punjab, Sindh and NWFP zones, who will apprise the minister about the situation prevailing in their zones.
