imageMULTAN: Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office Multan Khawaja Saleem Raza Asif has said that FBR will take up demands of ginners seeking tax relief and special incentives in a high level meeting next month.

Tax officials were fully aware of the losses suffered by farmers, ginners and textile industry due to lower cotton production recorded this year, the top tax official of RTO Multan said at a dinner hosted by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) here last Monday night in the honour of tax officials of Multan, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad.

Tax department has always tried to facilitate traders and industrialists while being within the ambit of law, however, the government also need their support in expanding tax base and improve revenue generation.

He said that improved national economy will benefit all.

He said that ginners should submit their proposals for the forthcoming national budget, adding that these would be considered seriously.

Hafiz Jamil Ahmad Awaisi, who has recently retired as chief commissioner RTO Multan, said that he had always tried to address grievances of the business community including ginners.

Chief Commissioner RTO Bahawalpur, Ghazanfar Hussain said that he was aware of the problems being faced by ginners and promised to plead their genuine demands.

Chairman PCGA Shahzad Ali Khan said that national cotton production was extraordinarily lower this year by over five million bales compared to last year's production of 14.8 million bales putting ginners under financial troubles.

Shahzad declared it a national loss pleading that economy suffered Rs 200 billion loss due to lower cotton production.

He said that ginners usually make payment to farmers in advance after taking loans and were facing threat of default. He said that tax department can help ginners by lowering tax burden on them and by making payments against their refund claims.

He added that ginners be provided tax relief and special incentives for some specific period to enable them come out of financial troubles.
