imageKARACHI: Senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and former MNA Muhammad Hussain Mehenti has taken strong exception to deteriorating civic situation in Karachi.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he said heaps of garbage, choked gutters and flowing sewer across Karachi, with no distinction on basis of localities, is reflective of lack of attention by the concerned authorities towards the country's megapolis.

The JI leader said it was high time that lights of Karachi are restored in the truest sense with optimum attention towards its infrastructure and civic facilities.

People must not be made to suffer for a pathetic situation that has been created due to political wrangling between two major parties claiming to represent Karachi and the province itself respectively, said Muhammad Hussain Mehenti.

He said absence of public representatives at municipal level, despite the fact that local bodies polls were held two months ago raises serious reservations about the intention of the provincial government.

This is beyond comprehension that those being strong supporters of 18th Amendment to the Constitution are little keen to devolve needed powers to the city and town levels, said Mehenti.

The JI leader urged the provincial government to take into account the plight of citizens and hand over relevant powers to elected municipal representatives of Karachi.
