imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bait-ul- Mal (PBM) had spent a sum of Rs. 890.742 million on providing basic amenities to orphans residing in 33 Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSHs) situated across the country from 2009-10 to 2013-14.

According to a document placed in the Parliament, PBM had decided to set up orphanages in the country in 2009 and has established 33 PSHs for destitute children through out the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

As per details of the expenditures incurred by PBM on PSHs – Rs. 40.419 million had been spent on PSHs in 2009-10, Rs. 135.151 million in 2010-11, Rs. 150.157 million in 2011-12, Rs. 282.048 million in 2012-13 and Rs. 282.967 million in 2013-14, said a press release.

As many as 33 PSHs are working across the country: Rawalpindi (2), Islamabad (5), Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Attock, Multan, Bahawalpur, Okara, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, Nawab Shah (Shaheed Benazirabad), Karachi, Sukkar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat, Peshawar, Kohat, Quetta, Zohb, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Mirpur and Sakardu.

The facilities being provided to children in PSHs included free accommodation, meal, education, clothes, medical care , skill development, laundry, religious education and counseling/legal aid for victims of violence and abuse.

The orphans between 4 to 6 years of age, fulfilling criteria for target group are enrolled preferably in Sweet Homes. They can stay until completion of their education/ skill/ adulthood.
