imageMATIARI: Sindh Secretary for Culture and Tourism Aijaz Memon has said that arrangements for the upcoming Urs celebrations of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai have been finalised, adding that the remaining issues will be sorted out before the start of the Urs within 48 hours.

According to a press release issued by Sindh Information Department here on Wednesday, the Secretary chaired a meeting in Bhit Shah to review the arrangements.

The Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbassi, SSP Matiari Amjad Shaikh, Director General of Culture Manzoor Kanasro, the shrine's caretaker's brother Syed Mazhar Ali Shah and other officials attended the meeting.

The Secretary expressed resolve to ensure better arrangements during the 3-day Urs which will start from December 7 in comparison to those witnessed during the previous years.

According to him, an international literary conference would also be organised on the occasion in which historians and literary figures from India and other countries would participate.

The agricultural and industrial expo, cultural village, livestock and animal show, traditional wrestling and musical nights would also feature in the 3-day event, he added.

The DC, Abbassi told the meeting that the district administration would fully cooperate with the Sindh Culture and Tourism Department to provide the requisite facilities to the devotees and visitors. He assured that his administration would take care of maintaining cleanliness and removal of encroachments.

The DC informed that the concerned officials of the Health, Revenue, Police and municipal departments have been directed to submit their plan within a week.

Abbassi said the police will ensure that the security situation remained peaceful and no untoward incident happened.

He further informed that 1,500 policemen will be deployed at the event while 22 police and 4 rangers pickets would also be established. The police will be equipped with walk- through gates and metal detectors, he added.

He asked SSP Matiari Amjad Shaikh to ensrue that body searches and checking of vehicles at the entry and exit points in the town was carried out stringently.

The Auqaf Department's official informed the meeting that lighting arrangements and cleanliness would be ensured prior to the start of the event.
