ISLAMABAD: Chairperson National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Marvi Memon has said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will soon announce a special assistance package for the drought-hit people of Tharparkar,
Talking to a private news channel, Marvi said she visited the drought-hit areas of Thar for preparing a detailed report following the surveys of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (PBM) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The report, containing recommendations, fact and figures compiled by the PBM and NDMA, would be submitted to the Prime Minister for finalizing the relief package, she said.
"I have visited Thar drought-hit areas on the directives of the Prime Minister and will present a report to him about the prevailing situation there. The Prime Minister will announce the assistance package for the victims," she added.
Marvi said the Prime Minister had directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwarts and the departments concerned to visit the affected areas and ensure extending all possible cooperation and relief to the brethren in need.
Although the drought, she said, was a provincial matter but the federal government would not do politics on the issue and would only concentrate on relief activities in the area.
She expressed grief and sorrow over deaths in the drought-affected area of Sindh.
Previously, she said the Prime Minister had announced a huge package for Thar drought-hit areas and this time 'targeted assistance' would be provided to the victims.
She said the federal government was committed to resolve the issues being faced by the masses, including clean water and nutrition there.
