imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued show cause notices to chief secretaries and health secretaries of all the four provinces and federal secretary of health for not implementing the court orders regarding regularization of services of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) in the country and sought reply till September 29.

The three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja resumed hearing of the case. During the course of proceedings, petitioner Bushra Arain told the bench that the federal and provincial governments did not regularize the services of 1,05,086 LHWs despite clear court orders.

She said that the LHWs neither received any offer letters from the government nor their salaries. She said that court ordered to regularize services of LHWs one and half year ago but the authorities concerned failed in implementing the court orders.

Shafi Chandio Additional Advocate General Sindh informed the court that the provincial government of Sindh would regularize the services of LHWs within one week. Razzaq A. Mirza, Additional Advocate General Punjab told the bench that the Punjab government would regularize the services of LHWs within one month time.

The law officers of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sought more time to regularize services of LHWs but the court rejected their plea and directed to regularize them.

Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja expressed annoyance over using delaying tactics in regularization of LHWs and remarked that the federal and provincial officials submitted affidavits in this regard.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till September 29.
