LAHORE: Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Monday as the country was on the path to progress, the Independence Day would be observed with great zeal and enthusism.
Talking to the media here, he said the whole nation would show unity among its ranks during the month of August.
Members of the parliament should participate in Independence Day functions without any discrimination and all political leaders would be invited to attend the functions, he added.
The minister said the nation always remembered those, who gave sacrifices for the country. The graves of martyrs would be visited on the day, while meetings would be held with their family members. The ISPR and Ministry of Interior had been requested to provide the lists of martyrs for the purpose, he added.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said candles would be lit across the country for martyrs on the evening of August 13.
He said on August 14, national flag would be hoisted on houses, buildings and cars.
The minister said the "Azadi Train" would start its journey from Peshawar on August 11, which after passing through almost every railway station of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, would reach Karachi after covering a distance of 4000 kilometres.
The Azadi Train, he added, would highlight the sacrifices made by the martyrs of Pakistan Freedom Movement.
Replying toa question, Khawaja Saad Rafique said the time to topple a government through sit-ins and protests was over.
