ISLAMABAD: People of all ages from across the country welcomed the New Year 2014 on late Tuesday night by saying goodbye to 2013 mainly through SMS (short messaging services).
From the last two weeks people started sending SMs to their family/ friends by saying goodbye to last year and wishing best wishes in advance for new year.
People fully utilised the SMs facility for wishing best wishes for new year and even some people arranged cake cutting ceremonies at their homes to welcome the new year.
Ahmed Ali, a resident of G-7 said that all his friends shared best wishes by sending SMs to each other, adding that the SMs are one of the best source to celebrate the festivals especially the Eids and New Year.
Due to severe cold in the city, most of the people only use SMs facility to welcome the new year.
Sanaullah, an employee of local company said that his family members sent him best wishes for the new year. He along with friends arranged a cake cutting ceremony to welcome the day.
Due to SMs facility, people easily can share their wishes with friends and family in economical way.
Zia ur Rehman, another resident said that when there was no mobile facility people only depended on Happy New Year cards, adding that now very few people send cards to each others because people can easily convey their best wishes by sending messages by mobile phones.
He said that most of the youth very actively participate in such kind of celebrations. Haq Nawaz, a senior citizen said that the life style of the people is changing due to use of technology. He claimed of receiving 200 sms of new year.
