ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has yet to initiate work on IT Park in Islamabad -approved in 2013, and was supposed to be completed at an estimated cost of $88.383 million.

The Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Aminul Haq, chaired a meeting regarding IT Park Islamabad project and directed completing work on IT Park in a transparent manner.

Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Secretary Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui was also present in the meeting.

In April 2019, the MoITT had stated that the Korean side took eight months in approving evaluation report of the Technology Park in Islamabad.

The project director, while briefing a parliamentary panel, stated that the MoITT got approval for establishment of Technology Park at Islamabad at an estimated cost of $88.383 million with a loan amounting $76.31 million from the Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) loan of EXIM Bank of Korea at 0.1 percent for 40 years with 10 years grace period.

However, physical work on the project is yet to be resumed, confirmed a senior official of the ministry. The meeting held on Wednesday, was informed about the detailed engineering and ICT design of the IT Park to be built at Chak Shazad, Islamabad.

The minister directed installing solar electric light poles in the parking area of the IT Park for the efficient utilisation of energy.

Solar panels can also be installed on the rooftop of the IT Park building to utilize renewable energy, he said.

The federal minister gave direction that the groundbreaking of the IT Park should be at the earliest, and the work on it should be completed speedily.
