Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Wednesday asked the government to present details of International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme along with its conditions before the Parliament before signing any bailout package. Addressing a press conference here, PPP leader Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokar said that the government must take the Parliament into confidence and should inform what measures the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will take to get the IMF programme.
He said that the government should inform the people how much power and gas prices will be increased, as well as what taxation measures would be taken. Khokar who is also the spokesman for Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan over his statement against Bilawal, saying if the Prime Minister has the courage, he must come to the Parliament and talk about the national issues, instead of making cheap statements in the public gatherings.
He said that there is no difference between Imran Khan and Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid as both are using same language to target opposition leadership.
He also lambasted the newly-appointed Interior Minister Ijaz Shah, saying that the PTI government has handed over the Ministry of Interior to a person who is facing serious allegations including links with the outlawed organisations. He said that in the presence of Shah in the federal cabinet, it would be difficult for Pakistan to plead its case at forum of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Khokar said that the PPP filed an application with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding Rs 7 billion corruption in Peshawar Bus Transit Project but the NAB didn't take any serious action. So much so the PTI has given the charge of Petroleum Ministry to a person who is defaulter of Rs 800 million to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.
He said that within just eight months of the PTI government, inflation has reached five years highest level, unemployment is increasing and terrorism is on the rise while the Prime Minister is busy targeting opposition.
Khokar added that the PTI government is setting examples of bad governance as in just eight months, three inspector generals of police (IGP) have been transferred in Punjab only, while the PTI as the opposition used to advocate the completion of constitutional terms of the government employees.
He also took the Prime Minister to task over his statement in Iran regarding the terrorists hitting Iran have been operating from Pakistan, saying that the PTI foreign minister was saying that terrorists operating in Balochistan have hideouts and training camps on Iranian soil, while he (the Prime Minister) was claiming otherwise.
He also said that the PPP is not a part of mainstreaming outlawed organisations and will oppose the move on all the forums till the end of the philosophy under which these organisations were created.
