Academia, lawyers and Hindu minority rights activists have said that they have drafted the suggestions regarding the syllabus for minority, which will be presented to the government soon. They appealed to the intellectuals of the society to analyse the curriculum being taught to minority children from primary and college level, making them uncomfortable to learn it.
They said the government should understand the problems of non-Muslim people when they get education under the present curriculum. It is the government's responsibility to formulate such a syllabus, which could be acceptable for the minority. An awareness seminar on Pakistan's educational system and religious minority under the access to justice for vulnerable populations of Pakistan was organized by Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) on Tuesday evening at Khana Badodh cafe, Sindh Museum, which was addressed by renowned writer Amar Sindhu, M Perkash Advocate, a minority rights activist, Fazul Qadir Advocate, Fiaza Hira of Dastageer Legal Aid Center (DLAC), Ghulam Asghar of PILER, Senior Journalist Mahesh Kumar and Roshan Shah.
They expressed their concerns over increasing insecurity and uncertainty among the minority, forcing them to leave the country. They urged the government to realise the situation and take appropriate measures in this regard. M Perkash Advocate said that discrimination against the minority has been an old problem but unfortunately nowadays an increase has been seen in hatred sentiments and intolerance, creating a fear among the minority about the future of their children. He said marriage bill is still flawed and the government and provincial assembly are reluctant to pass and implement it.
Fazul Qadir Memon Advocate said that the Constitution provides assurance of security and protection of life, honour and property of every citizen of the state regardless religion and caste. He said syllabus should be transformed as per the wishes of minority people and give them respect as equal citizens. He said kidnapping and targeting minority people and forced marriages should be stopped by implementing the land of law. He said all the citizens should have right to occupy positions and offices without restrictions on the basis of religions.
Amar Sindhu, a writer and activist said extremism is increasing with the passage of time and vulnerable people are being targeted in the name of religion and sects by the extremists. She said Pakistan has become battle ground of the world powers. Sindh has a beauty of multi religious and multi ethnic groups living together for long. In this regard, she also criticises Sindhi nationalists who oppose these ethnic groups in Sindh.
She also talked about a member of curriculum division, who left the country recently after receiving threats and said similar threats are there for al saner elements and nobody will be safe from such militants. She urged the society to take responsibility to stand up with the saner people to save the oppressed people from extremism. Earlier, Ghulam Asghar Khanothi of PILER briefed the audience about the objectives of the program and said access to justice program is being run in 13 districts of Pakistan, bearing good results.
