LAHORE: The Punjab Excise department has decided to waive off registration fee for the electric vehicles, said sources.
According to the departmental sources, the step has been taken to encourage the usage of electric vehicles in the province under the prevailing environmental challenges. They said the step is being taken to provide relief to those intended to own an electric vehicle during the next fiscal year.
It may be noted that the department is presently charging 50 percent of the value of the registration fee being charged against the regular vehicles. So far, around 15 vehicles have registered with the department. The departmental sources said a proposal has been forwarded to the provincial cabinet for its inclusion in the next budget. According to the sources, the department has decided to follow Islamabad where the registration fee against electrical vehicles is zero.
