imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday declined request to stay proceedings on an application against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Aleem Khan in the Election Commission.

However, the court issued notices to the commission and sought reply within a week on a petition filed by Aleem Khan challenging Election Commission's proceedings on an application filed by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq against him.

The single bench comprising Justice Ayesha A Malik heard the matter.

During the hearing, Aleem Khan's counsel Anees Hashmi submitted that Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had moved an application before the commission for action against his client under relevant provisions of the Contempt of Courts Ordinance 2004, for submitting fake affidavits in NA-122 vote shifting case.

He pleaded the court to set aside the proceedings on application against his client as no affidavit was got verified. He also pleaded the court to stay proceedings till final decision of the case.

However, the court declined request to stay proceedings on the application and issued notice to the commission and sought reply within a week.
