imageISLAMABAD: Earthquake Reconstruction Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) has completed 20 mega projects worth Rs 5 billion and remaining 32 projects would be completed by the end of current year.

Director General City Development Project Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), Zafar Hussain Wahla told media persons that Rs 18.5 billion has so far been allocated while about Rs 12 billion has been spent in Muzaffarabad city to rebuild important structures destroyed by massive earthquake on October 8, 2005.

"It is not the number of the projects; it is the scope and the relevance of the projects, which makes it more important", he commented.

Giving the total financial progress of completed project in the city, he said that Sharing the details of the completed and on going projects, he added that water supply and sewage networks were the most appreciated projects which will ensure cleanliness, good health in 21st century living.

To a question, he explained that 34 water storage tanks with a capacity ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 gallons are also built to address the water scarcity and provision of water to the ever expanding capital city.

He said that old water supply pipe line of 200 Kilometer was also integrated with new line which will cater the need of growing city for the next 35 years.

To a question about buildings and roads destroyed, severely damaged and its reconstruction, he said that 14 seismically safe building including shopping plaza,shopping complex, main mutton and fish markets, Tariqabad by pass road college road and 132 KVA grid station reconstructed to facilitate the Muzaffarabad residents.

He said that in Muzaffarabad city and its suburbs residents are enjoying the facilitation created by Naluchi Bridge an iconic project. Commissioning of the Jalalabad Bridge has further reduced traffic load as result traffic jams are slowly becoming a story of past.

About the housing project he said that two new satellite towns were built at Langarpura and Thotha over 2000 kanals to cater for rapid organization and future population increase. In the city two new parks were also developed and also improved three existing parks for the children and families.

He also apprised about well equipped Combine Military Hospital (CMH). The hospital which was named as Sheikh Khalifa Bin Al-Nihan is a well equipped having state of the art laboratories and Operations Theater.

Wahla said that residents of AJK Capital are having access to quality education at purpose build educational institutes starting from primary level up to university. Municipal facilities and infrastructure networks are improving with every passing day, to guarantee ideal life style to state population.

In volley of question regarding new facilities in the city he said "focus of the development is the residents of Muzaffarabad with special emphasis on improving quality of life for common man".

He added that projects like Naluchi Bridge, Bank Road Plaza, Officers Club and central library will bring in new change. He said that number of parks and river side walkways are completed while some are near completion to enjoy nature and keep them fit.
