imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the provincial minister for Information and Local Government to launch operation against encroachments and illegal construction on Government land and amenity plots.

The chief minister, presiding over a meeting here on Monday expressed displeasure over the encroachments in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.

Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon briefing the meeting said that a large number of marriage halls have been constructed on the KMC land. "A similar havoc has also been wreaked with amenity plots meant for parks and community centers.

The chief minister directed him to compile a detailed list of the land of KMC and KWSB under the illegal occupation of land mafia within one week. "I want a similar report about the encroachments in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana," he said.

He also directed the Local Government minister to launch a comprehensive operation against land mafia occupying local bodies land in Karachi within a week.

He directed the minister to take assistance of Rangers, Police and anti-encroachment force for anti-encroachment operation.

The meeting also discussed the matters related to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

Sharjeel Memon told the chief minister that monthly billing of the KWSB stood at Rs 700 million but hardly Rs 350 million were recovered. "Out of the recovery amount 90 percent goes into salaries and the remaining amount was utilized in repair and maintenance.

He said there were around 14000 employees in KWSB against the requirement of 4000 employees.

The chief minister directed the minister to work out a strategy to increase recoveries. "This is the only way to make the KWSB an effective and self-sustained organisation. How long it would be depending on Sindh government for financial assistance," he said.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiana, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput among others.
