BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has decided to ban wives and girlfriends of members of the Indian team to cheer their partners in Australia and New Zealand during the ICC World Cup 2015. They don’t want any distraction during the mega event of cricket.
According to Times of India, the Indian board would generally allow partners to accompany players on long and high pressure international tours but administrators have put their foot down for something as big as the World Cup. “This rule of not allowing wives and girlfriends was always there in the past. In a big tournament like the World Cup, the cricketers should stay away from distractions,” top BCCI official quoted as saying.
Virat Kohli, who recently captained India in two test matches during the series, was seen inviting unwanted criticism during the play. The cricketer’s blowing kiss to his alleged girlfriend Anushka Sharma after hitting century became one of the biggest non-cricketing talking point during the England tour, which India lost.
Assuming these distractions are the reasons for the teams’ flop performance, BCCI has implemented new rules to make Indian team concentrate more on the play.
Another official said, “You can’t stop them from visiting Australia if they want to be a part of the euphoria, can you? The board won’t have any problem as long as the players are kept away from family matters during the tournament,” Indian media reported.
