imageHYDERABAD: The three- day 271st annual Urs celebrations of great sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai began from Sunday with traditional enthusiasm and festivity at Bhitshah Town, district Matiari.

Tens of thousands of devotees from all over Sindh and other parts of the country arrived in Bhitshah Town to pay homage to Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Culture and Tourism Ms Sharmila Farooqui inaugurated the three- day Urs celebrations by laying a chaddar and floral wreaths at the mazar of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and offering fateha for the integrity, solidarity, peace and prosperity of the country.

Talking to media persons at the courtyard of Bhitai's mazar, Ms Sharmila Farooqui said that the country at present is experiencing various challenges and threats including poverty, extremism and terrorism and the solution of these issues are available in the messages of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and other saints.

The spreading of the messages of peace, love, affection and brotherhood preached by these saints can bring peace and prosperity in the country, she said and added that by following these messages, the roots of terrorism and extremism could also be eliminated.

With reference to law and order situation in Karachi, she said that the government had launched targeted operation in consultation with all political parties, which is producing fruitful results in maintaining the rule of law in Karachi.

She informed that a number of target killers have been booked and punished asa result of thos operation as compared to the policies of previous governments when target killers were freed on parole.

Besides hatred on basis of school of thought and terrorism, the government is also experiencing other challenges and making efforts to resolve the same with a spirit of following the message of peace and brotherhood, she added.

Later, the Advisor inaugurated the agro-industrial exhibition where she went round different stalls set up by various departments with display of their achievements and products. The exhibition has been arranged by Sindh Agriculture Department for the devotees of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor said that agriculture is the backbone of economy of the country and majority of the people of Sindh depend on agriculture. The provincial government has made agreements with different countries to introduce modern technology and equipment in agriculture sector so that the growers of the province could improve their socio economic condition.

Among others, Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister Sarfraz Rajar, Secretary Culture Aijaz Memon, Deputy Commissioner Matiari Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, SSP Amjad Ali Shaikh and PPP leaders Khan Muhammad Sehto and Abdul Aziz Memon were also present on the occasion.
