Pakistan’s first government owned channel ‘Pakistan Television Corporation’ (PTV) has completed its 50 successful years in Television industry on November 26, 2014.
Founded on 26 November 1964, by an international-sector organization NEC, under license from the Government of Pakistan, PTV was the first major televised media broadcasting network in Pakistan and currently operates under the government-ownership management of the government of Pakistan.
PTV recently celebrates its golden jubilee by showcasing short clips of their popular TV series including ‘Tanhaiyaan’, ‘Nishan-e-Haider’, ‘Angan Terha’, ‘Sona Chandi’, ‘Fifty Fifty’, ‘Waris’ and ‘Khawaja & Sons’. Moreover, special transmission was set-up to celebrate the 50 glorious years of PTV.
For the first 30 years or so after its inception, PTV remained an invaluable source of knowledge and entertainment, fading out a bit in the last 20 years. During this period, it faced competition from Indian movies, which started sneaking into Pakistani households through VCRs; also from illegal boosters and antennae installed at rooftops to catch international transmissions illegally, local media reported.
In early 20’s, electronic media and new generation of private channels outcasts first Pakistani TV channel but nothing can replace the meaningful drama series and programs which was previously shown on PTV.
