imageISLAMABAD: The country's Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation rate during September 2014 increased by 7.68 percent as compared to that of September 2013.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and Sensitive Prices Index (SPI) in September increased by 2.74 percent and 5.37 percent respectively when compared to September 2013.

On month-on-month basis, the CPI inflation increased by 0.4 percent in September 2014 compared to August 2014.

According to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday, the average inflation rate during first three months of current year (July-September), 2014 increased by 7.52 percent over same period of last year.

The WPI and SPI in September this year increased by 0.5 percent and 0.2 percent when compared with that of previous month.

The food items that witnessed increase in the prices during September 2014 over August 2014 included tomatoes (33.88 percent), sugar (6.33 percent), gur (2.75 percent), honey (2.32 percent), pulse mash (2.24 percent), onions (2.19 percent), tea (1.42 percent) and eggs (1.21 percent).

The food items that witnessed decrease in the prices during the period under review included chicken (11.41 percent), fresh fruits (4.17 percent), pulse moong (2.73 percent) and potatoes (2.35 percent).

The non-food items that witnessed increase during the month included transport services (8.52 percent), household servant (1.63 percent), furniture (1.2 percent), cleaning and laundry (1.19 percent), tailoring (1.14 percent) and household textiles (1.12 percent).

The non-food items that witnessed decrease during the month included motor fuel (0.55 percent) and kerosene oil (0.14 percent).

On year-on-year basis the food items that witnessed increase in their prices during September 2014 over same month of last year included potatoes (99.71 percent), cigarettes (22.6 percent), pulse moong (19.7 percent), pulse mash (19.04 percent) and honey (16.13 percent).

The food items that witnessed decrease during the period under review included tea (17.61 percent) and onions (9.42 percent).

The non food items which increased during the month included motor vehicle tax (36.71 percent), electricity (15.82 percent) and education (15.28 percent).

In September 2014, the core inflation measured by non food non energy CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 8.1 percent on year on year basis over same period of last year.

On month on month basis it increased by 0.7 percent in September 2014 as compared to 0.2 percent in the previous month and by 0.5 percent in September 2013.

Core inflation, measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 7.1 percent on year on year basis in September 2014 as compared to 7.1 percent in the previous month and by 7.6 percent in September 2013.

On month on month basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in September 2014 as compared to 0.2 percent in the previous month and by 0.6 percent in September 2013.
